At Heart & Honey, we're more than just a candle company—we're a story of passion, dedication, and a love for what we do. Our journey began with a simple obsession: candles. We couldn’t get enough of them. Every few weeks, we would find ourselves picking up a new scent, trying to find that perfect candle to fill our homes with warmth and fragrance. It wasn’t long before we realized we weren’t just customers; we were truly in love with the process and the magic of candle-making.

It started with a spark of curiosity, and that curiosity quickly turned into a full-fledged passion. We learned the craft of making candles, experimenting with different scents, wicks, and waxes. Soon, our friends and family were receiving handmade candles as gifts, and that's when the idea clicked: why not share this passion with the world? And so, Heart & Honey Candles was born.

We know that when you light one of our candles, you’re not just enjoying a scent; you’re experiencing a product crafted with care, commitment, and attention to detail as well as supporting a local business. We source our ingredients with the utmost care, ensuring that each candle we make is not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly and clean-burning. We stand by the quality of our candles and the values we hold close: sustainability, integrity, and love for the craft.

A Business Built on Love and Dreams

For us, this business is more than just a job—it’s a dream come true. Beth, co-founder of Heart & Honey, has always had a desire to own her own business. "I've wanted to run my own business since I was about 10 years old. You could find me playing 'shop' or pretending to run a store with my little cash register," Beth recalls with a smile. After studying business and entrepreneurship, she knew it was her life's goal to build something meaningful—something that would be a reflection of her passions. Riley her fiancé also went to school for business and has always had a desire to do something that makes an impact in people’s lives while supporting the local community.

We both come from the Pittsburgh area, and our roots run deep in this vibrant community. We’ve lived here our whole lives, and we’re proud to call it home. We’re not just business owners; we’re locals, too. We believe in supporting each other, and we’re committed to providing our community with candles that reflect the love and care we put into everything we create. Beth is from the South Hills and Riley grew up in Wexford. Together they have a golden retriever dog who loves helping out at the candle lab ;).

Our Journey: From Dream Job to Reality

At Heart & Honey, getting to pick our vessels, choose our scents, and make candles every day feels like living a dream. We’re doing what we love, and it’s more than just creating beautiful products—it’s about crafting experiences that bring warmth and joy into homes everywhere. Every day is a new opportunity to experiment with new scents, explore unique vessel designs, and perfect the art of candle-making. We honestly pinch ourselves sometimes, because we know we’re living the dream we’ve always wanted.

Beth and Riley have both been in roles helping small to medium business transform into large. Beth has worked closely with small businesses, tackling everything from inventory management to navigating shipping challenges, to API integrations and solving e-commerce problems. She truly learned the ropes from the ground up. “I’ve been on both sides of the table,” Beth says. “I understand the hustle, the late nights, and the ongoing need to problem-solve. Everything from figuring out logistics to making sure inventory is just right—I’ve seen it all and been there to help small businesses grow.”

Now, as co-owner of Heart & Honey, Beth finds herself in the unique position of applying everything she learned while helping other businesses solve problems. The challenges we face daily are ones she’s already tackled before, from managing our inventory to solving shipping issues and fine-tuning our online store experience. It’s a surreal moment to realize that all those lessons have come full circle. We’re now the ones doing the work, the ones in charge of making those key decisions.

But despite all the hard work that goes into running a small business, there’s never a dull moment. We’re constantly learning, growing, and evolving. Each challenge we face only makes us better at what we do. And when we step back and look at our candles—whether it's the careful selection of our vessels, the perfect blend of scents, or the final burn—we can’t help but feel proud of how far we've come.

We’re so grateful for the experiences that led us here, and we wouldn’t trade this dream job for anything. At the end of the day, we’re not just crafting candles; we’re creating something that makes a difference in people’s lives. And that’s the best part of all.

The Heart & Honey Story

The name "Heart & Honey" came to us during a road trip. As we drove along, we tossed around ideas, trying to find the right name that would capture the essence of who we are. We wanted something simple, something sweet, and something that felt true to our passion. After a few laughs and brainstorm sessions, "Heart & Honey" just clicked—it was perfect. It’s a name that reflects the love and sweetness we bring to our candles and to everything we do.

And now, as we approach an exciting new chapter in our lives—we’re engaged and planning our wedding for September 2025—we’re even more committed to building this business that we both love so much.
